Panthers sink Lakers to remain undefeated

Kaisa Coborn and Kendra Coborn combined to hit five 3-pointers to open the second half in helping the Park Rapids girls basketball team break open a close game in a 70-56 Mid-State Conference victory over Detroit Lakes Friday night at the Area High School gym.

The first half featured four ties and eight lead changes as the Panthers settled for a 25-24 lead at the break before taking control in the second half.

Jumpers by Rilee Michaelson and Kaisa Coborn, layups by Julia Johnson, Jaiden McCollum and Jordan Klemmer, and a jumper by McCollum led the Panthers as the game was tied at 14-14 with 6:03 to play in the first half.

A 3-pointer and jumper by Kaisa Coborn gave the Panthers a 19-18 lead at the 3:32 mark before a layup off a steal by Michaelson and another 3-pointer by Kaisa Coborn gave Park Rapids a 25-24 lead at the intermission.

After Breanna Price hit two free throws to give the Lakers a 26-25 lead, Park Rapids responded with a 16-6 run as Paige Johnson scored off a rebound, the Coborns each hit a 3-pointer, Michaelson hit a jumper and scored inside, McCollum hit a jumper and Kendra Coborn scored on a layup to produce a 41-32 lead with 12:41 to play.

A layup by Olivia McDonald and back-to-back 3-pointers by Kaisa Coborn extended the lead to 54-39 with 7:40 left. Lauryn Manning's layup and 3-pointer cut the gap to 56-46 with 5:52 remaining before a 3-pointer and jumper by Kendra Coborn and a jumper by McCollum sparked an 11-2 run that provided a 67-48 advantage with 2:33 to go.

Kaisa Coborn hit five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 23 points while Kendra Coborn chipped in 13 points. McCollum also hit double figures with 11 points as the Panthers improved to 4-0 in the conference and overall.

Price (18), Manning (17) and Lauren Tschider (10) hit double figures for the Lakers, who fell to 0-2 in conference play and 0-6 overall.
