Enfield, Benjamin to join Hall of Fame

James Enfield and Julie (Benjamin) Colbalt will be inducted into the Panther Athletic Hall of Fame at the Park Rapids All Sports Banquet May 22.

Enfield was the first four-sport letterwinner at Park Rapids. Enfield earned letters in football, basketball, track and baseball during his junior and senior years in 1955 and 1956.

Enfield played football at Bemidji State College for three years from 1957-1959. The 1957 and 1959 teams were inducted into BSU Hall of Fame in 2008.

Enfield went on to coach football, basketball, wrestling, baseball and track at Lake Park, Winnebago, IL, Battle Lake and Mounds View for 35 years.

Benjamin was a three-sport athlete at Park Rapids, competing in swimming, basketball and track.

Benjamin was the first individual state qualifier for the girls swim team in a swimming event when she advanced to the state Class AA meet in the 100-yard butterfly as a senior. At one time, Benjamin held nine of the 11 school records. Benjamin held the 100-yard butterfly record for 26 years before it was broken in 2009. She still ranks in the top 10 in the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.

Benjamin went on to swim at Hamline University.

The All Sports Banquet will be held May 22 starting at 6:15 p.m. Tickets for the banquet can be purchased at the Area High School office.

The Hall of Fame Committee encourages more nominations from the public. Nomination forms are available at the Area High School office or on the school’s website: Click on the “Departments” link, then on the “Activities” link, then on the “Athletic Hall of Fame” link to obtain a form. There are many people deserving of being considered for the Hall of Fame who have not been nominated.
