UNC's Malone, Pajari, Carlson; Nevis' Huckbody qualify for state
United North Central's Jake Malone, Max Pajari and Taylor Carlson and Nevis' Collin Huckbody qualified for the state Class A wrestling tournament at last Saturday's Section 8A meet at Glyndon.
Malone won the section title at 126 pounds, Pajari was the runner-up at 138 pounds, Huckbody won the title at 182 pounds and Carlson claimed the title at 220 pounds.
Malone, the No. 1 seed at 126, received two byes before defeating Fertile-Beltrami's Hunter Olson 2-0 in the semifinals and Frazee's Austin Skillings 4-1 in the championship match to advance to state with a 37-1 record.
Pajari, the No. 2 seed at 138, pinned West Marshall's Alic Decshane in :40 and Greenbush/Badger/Middle River's Cory Hasbrouck in 4:50 before dropping a 2-0 decision to Frazee's Bruce Lemon in the title match. Pajari earned a trip to state with a 3-2 decision over Mahnomen's Ryan McArthur in a true-second match. Pajari carried a 36-7 record to state.
Huckbody, the No. 1 seed at 182, pinned GBMR's Collin Berard in :33 and Mahnomen's Kal Handyside in 3:37 to reach the finals. Huckbody advanced to state with a 9-0 major decision over Frazee's Kody Vandeneykel. Huckbody improved to 34-1.
In the 220-pound bracket, Carlson entered as the No. 2 seed and used a pin in 1:12 over West Marshall's Jay Oberg and a 10-0 major decision over BGMR's Beau Blumer to reach the title match. Carlson defeated top-seeded Christopher Zimmer of Walker-Hackensack-Akeley/Nevis 4-3 to qualify for state. Carlson carried a 35-4 record to state.
