Pedersons' two goals, assist spark Panthers' 4-1 win over Blue Devils

Alex Pederson's two goals and an assist sparked the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team to a 4-1 win over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek Tuesday night at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.

The Panthers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead behind goals by Ashley Thelen and Bailee Jerger. Pederson set up Thelen's goal just 14 seconds into the game before Hannah Williams received an assist on Jerger's power-play goal just 3:46 into the game.

Williams also assisted on a power-play goal by Pederson at the 5:05 mark of the second period as the Panthers claimed a 3-0 lead.

Pederson pushed Park Rapids' advantage to 4-0 with a goal at the 7:41 mark of the third period.

The Blue Devils avoided the shutout when Katelyn Barthel scored on the power play at the 8:38 mark. That was LPGE/WDC's first goal against the Panthers in three meeting this season.

Goalie Shania Johnson finished with 27 saves as the Panthers defeated LPGE/WDC for the third time this season. The Panthers won for the 10th time in their last 11 games to improve to 12-8 on the season.

The Blue Devils, who had a 28-23 advantage in shots, fell to 7-14.
