Panthers push win streak to 7 in row

Solid defense and an improved offense have the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team riding a seven-game winning streak.

The Panthers extended their winning streak by defeating a pair of North Dakota teams at the Crookston Invitational. Park Rapids opened the tournament with a 3-1 win over Jamestown on Dec. 27 and followed with a 6-0 win over Mandan on Dec. 28.

Those two wins followed a 6-0 victory at Lake of the Woods on Dec. 21. The Panthers have outscored their opponents 36-3 with four shutouts in the last seven games.

"Great team play has been a key to our success. We've had strong goaltending and have had great defensive play and have started scoring," said Park Rapids head coach Gary Vaudrin, whose team improved to 9-7. "We have a very tough January schedule with playing teams such as Crookston, East Grand Forks and Thief River Falls. We've had competitive games with Crookston and East Grand Forks and hope we can turn these games into wins."
