EGF takes charge late in 5-1 win

Coco Piche scored two goals within 24 seconds late in the third period to spark East Grand Forks to a 5-1 win over the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Ake-ley girls hockey team in a battle of Section 8A rivals Saturday afternoon at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.

EGF held a 25-4 advantage in shots on goal in the first period, but the Panthers held a 1-0 lead on Hannah Williams' slap shot 4:08 into the game.

Riley Koberinski's goal with 2:28 to play in the second period tied the game at 1-1 as the Green Wave held a 21-7 edge in shots in that period.

Lexi Mack's goal at the 12:36 mark of the third period proved to be the game-winner before Piche scored a power-play goal at the 14:20 mark and followed with another goal at the 14:44 mark. Haley Mack's goal with 1:05 to play sealed the win.

Goalie Shania Johnson, who made 45 saves in the first two periods, finished with 54 saves as the Panthers fell to 2-6 on the season. Madi Galstad made 14 saves for EGF, which improved to 5-0-1.
