Thelen, Pederson, Williams key Panthers' victory at DL

Ashley Thelen, Alex Pederson and Hannah Williams had a goal and an assist each in leading the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team to a 4-2 Mid-State Conference win at Detroit Lakes Tuesday night.

After Hailey Sonstegard's power-play goal gave the Lakers a 1-0 lead, Thelen's unassisted goal with 52 seconds remaining in the first period tied the game at 1-1.

Sonstegard opened the second period with another power-play goal to give Detroit Lakes a 2-1 lead.

The Panthers responded by scoring three times in the third period to snap a five-game losing streak. Thelen and Williams set up Pederson at the 2:39 mark before Pederson assisted on what proved to be the game-winner by Williams 19 seconds later. Julia Renner sealed the win with a goal at the 8:46 mark.

Goalie Shania Johnson made 29 saves for the win as the Panthers improved to 2-5. Detroit Lakes, despite a 31-27 edge in shots on goal, fell to 0-7.
