Wadena-Deer Creek backed up its No. 8 state Class AA ranking with a 25-8, 25-7, 25-7 Mid-State Conference win over the Park Rapids volleyball team Thursday night at the Area High School gym.

In Set 1, Mady Vaudrin's kill made it 1-1 before W-DC used a pair of kills by Emily Miron, a kill by Halley Maas and two ace serves by Carrie Nelson to claim a 10-2 lead. Kills by Bailee Jerger and Vaudrin kept the Panthers within 15-7 before six service points by Heather Theisen and kills by Maas and Miron sparked a 10-1 run by W-DC to close out the set. A winning tip by Grace Bateman accounted for the Panthers' only point during that run.

A pair of kills by Miron offset a tip by Vaudrin as W-DC jumped out to a 5-1 lead in Set 2. Theisen then served six points as the Wolverines led 17-4. A kill by Megan Grimes ended that run, but Maas served five points as W-DC went on an 8-2 run to close out the set.

The Panthers stayed close at 10-7 in Set 3 behind a tip by Katelyn Hilmanowski, a block by Grimes and Justine Rittgers, a tip by Rittgers and a kill by Bateman. Caitlin Volkmann followed a kill with 14 straight service points to end the match. Miron had four kills during that match-ending run.

Miron finished with 14 kills and six blocks as W-DC improved to 3-0 in the conference and 7-1 overall.

The Panthers fell to 0-3 in conference matches and 3-8 overall.
