Gaustad strikes out 15, throws one-hitter, hits two home runs in Otters' win over Panthers

Fergus Falls second baseman Reece Johnson (6) and Park Rapids' Sam Coborn looked for the call from the umpire on a stolen base attempt during Monday's game. Coborn was called out on the play.

Pete Gaustad almost single-handedly defeated the Park Rapids baseball team Monday night.

Gaustad threw a one-hitter and struck out 15 and aided his cause by blasting two home runs and driving in five runs in leading Fergus Falls to a 9-2 victory in this game between Section 8AA rivals at the Area High School field.

The Panthers scored an unearned run in the first when Zach Eystad and Sam Coborn reached on errors and Eystad scored on a wild pitch.

Park Rapids extended the lead to 2-0 in the third with another unearned run when Coborn reached on an error, stole second and scored on Chris Goplerud's RBI single.

Gaustad's three-run homer in the fifth inning gave the Otters a 3-2 lead while his second blast sparked a six-run sixth to seal the win. Abbot Aho contributed a two-run double and Drew Reinertson had a two-run single in that inning.

Gaustad didn't walk a batter and struck out the side in the second and fourth innings as Fergus Falls improved to 9-9.

Cory Odland started and took the loss as the Panthers fell to 10-8.
