Patriots coast by Panthers in sweep

Katie White and Lindzee Johnson combined to allow only nine hits as Pequot Lakes remained undefeated on the season with a pair of Mid-State Conference victories over the Park Rapids fastpitch softball team Thursday.

White gave up four hits as the Patriots won the first game 12-1 in five innings while Johnson followed with a five-hit shutout as Pequot Lakes completed the sweep with a 12-0 victory in five innings in the second game.

Lexi Burlingame doubled, stole third and scored on an error in the second inning to account for the Panthers' only run in the first game.

Nakkita Buckanaga and Lauren Naeve singled with one out in the third, but the Panthers left the bases loaded.

Pequot Lakes strung together six hits and scored nine times in the fourth inning to end the first game.

In the second game, Burlingame went 2 for 2 as the Panthers were shut out for the first time this season.

Pequot Lakes scored four times in the first and second innings to spark the sweep.

The Patriots improved to 10-0 in the conference and 16-0 overall while Park Rapids fell to 3-5 in the conference and 6-5 overall.
