Panthers card a 332 on home course

Bailey Mueller blasted his shot out of the bunker in front of the No. 9 green during Monday's Mid-State Conference boys golf tournament at Headwaters Country Club.

At the beginning of the season, Jim Weinzierl said the Park Rapids boys golf team had the potential to have four golfers shoot rounds in the low 80s at the same meet.

That's what the Panthers did at Headwaters Country Club Monday as an 82 by Bailey Mueller, a pair of 83s by Ed Carlson and Dustin Bethel, and an 84 by Ian Johnson led to a 332 team score and third place at the Mid-State Conference tournament.

The 332 was the Panthers' best team score at the conference tournament since carding a 331 for runner-up honors in 1999.

Detroit Lakes won the team title with a 306 while Staples-Motley was second with a 315.

Wadena-Deer Creek's Tyler Fix and Detroit Lakes' Austin Rusness led the field by shooting rounds of 3-over par 75. The other all-conference golfers were Tanner Lane of Detroit Lakes (76), Crosby-Ironton's Mitch Gutzman (77), Staples-Motley's Nick Forsberg and Zach Israelson (77s), and Detroit Lakes' Conner Hedstrom (77).

Mueller earned all-conference honorable mention honors with his 82.
