Panthers' pitchers shut down C-I offense

Park Rapids' offense produced 34 hits and 35 runs to spark a Mid-State Conference fastpitch softball doubleheader sweep at Crosby-Ironton Tuesday.

Bailee Jerger and Ashley Domino combined on a one-hitter and were supported by a 15-hit attack as the Panthers won the first game 15-0 in five innings.

The Panthers followed with a 19-hit attack in the second game to complete the sweep with a 20-3 five-inning victory.

In the opener, the Panthers scored eight runs in the first inning and seven runs in the second inning. Domino, Ashley Thelen and Jerger had RBI doubles in the first while Olivia Vaadeland's RBI double, Lauren Naeve's two-run single and Lexi Burlingame's three-run double sparked the seven-run second inning.

Bailee Jerger struck out nine and walked three over three innings for the win.

McKenna Brand's two-run double, Erika Jerger's RBI triple, and RBI singles by Bailee Jerger, Thelen and Anna Grimes led to eight runs in the first inning to start the second game. RBI doubles by Bailee Jerger, Domino and Thelen sparked a four-run third. Burl-ingame's solo home run, Bailee Jerger's triple, Dom-ino's RBI single and Vaadeland's RBI double produced three runs in the fourth. Vaadeland's three-run double capped off a four-run fifth.

Domino picked up the win, allowing one hit and no runs over the first two innings.

Bailee Jerger went 7 for 8 with seven runs and five RBI, Domino went 4 for 8 with five runs and five RBI, Thelen went 4 for 4 with three runs and five RBI, and Vaadeland went 3 for 6 with five RBI to lead the Panthers' offense in the two games.

The sweep lifted Park Rapids to 3-1 in conference play and 4-1 overall. C-I fell to 0-2 in the conference and 0-3 overall.
