Oh what a season it has been for the Perham boys basketball team.

Two months ago this was a team struggling to achieve normalcy and on Saturday the Yellowjackets were crowned the Class 2A Minnesota State champions with a 45-37 win over Rochester Lourdes on Saturday at the Target Center in Minneapolis.

Perham finishes the season 31-1 and picks up a title in its first-ever appearance at state.

Perham opened the season 10-0 and gained area notoriety for its play until Jan. 20 when junior guard Zach Gabbard collapsed due to cardiac arrest.

Gabbard's loss was felt but the team managed to recover by only losing one game en route to winning state.
