Pirates score three quick goals, defeat Panthers 5-1

Crookston scored three goals in the first 3:19 of the game to spark a 5-1 victory over the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team Friday night at Crookston.

Goals by Shannon Kaiser, Natahsa Skala and Brianna Breiland gave the Pirates a 3-0 lead before Park Rapids' Danika Aletto set up McKenna Brand at the 7:35 mark. Lizzy Awender's goal pushed the Pirates' lead to 4-1.

Riley Erickson opened the second period with a goal to give Crookston a 5-1 lead.

Goalie Shania Johnson finished with 34 saves for the Panthers, who were outshot 39-17 by the state's No. 4-ranked Class A team.

The win lifted Crookston to 5-1 against Section 8A teams and 12-3 overall. The Panthers fell to 1-6 against section opponents and 5-10 overall.
