For the first half of the opening set, the Park Rapids volleyball team battled the state's No. 2-rated Class AA team point for point.

That's when Wadena-Deer Creek's front line took over.

Led by the net play of Brittney Noon, Kelsi Crawford and Emily Miron and the serving of Avery Jackson, the Wolverines were able to pull away en route to a 25-16, 25-4, 25-19 Mid-State Conference victory at the Area High School gym.

Ashley Domino had a winning tip, spike and dig and Olivia Vaadeland chipped in an ace block and kill as the Panthers battled W-DC to a 13-13 tie in Set 1. A pair of blocks by Domino and a kill by Justine Rittgers accounted for the Panthers' only points down the stretch as the Wolverines ended the set with a 12-3 run.

After a winning tip by Vaadeland to open Set 2 gave Park Rapids a 1-0 lead, Johnson served 12 consecutive points to give W-DC a 15-1 advantage. Domino ended that run with a winning spike, but the Wolverines went on a 10-2 run to close out the set and take control.

Vaadeland opened Set 3 with a block before Johnson served 11 straight points to give W-DC a 13-1 advantage. A winning tip by Vaadeland, a kill by Domino, and a block and kill by Vaadeland rallied the Panthers to within 17-11. A spike by Grace Bateman and three service points by Katie Just closed the margin to 23-19 before W-DC closed out the match.

Noon had 14 kills, Crawford had nine kills and Miron had seven kills and eight blocks as W-DC improved to 3-0 in the conference and 10-0 overall.

Vaadeland had five kills and two blocks, Domino had four kills and Marissa Rittgers had six digs to lead the Panthers, who fell to 1-2 in conference matches and 4-14 overall.
