Nevis' Schuldt repeats as an all-state runner

Bryon Schuldt was hoping to contend for the state Class A boys cross-country title this year.

Instead, the Nevis sophomore will have to settle for being an all-state runner for the second year in a row.

Schuldt, who qualified for his second state meet by winning the Section 8A title, finished 12th for the second year in a row with a time of 16 minutes, 54 seconds at Saturday's state Class A meet at St. Olaf College in Northfield. Schuldt finished 12th in his state debut last year with a time of 16:41.

Nevis senior Hunter Schroeder finished 98th overall in 18:12 in his state debut. Schroeder qualified for his first state meet by placing seventh overall at the Section 8A meet. A total of 160 runners competed in the state meet.

Worthington's Mubarik Musa won the state title by covering the 5,000-meter course in 16:01. Blake's Paul Koullick was second in 16:19.

Plainview-Elgin-Millville won the team title with 100 points while top-ranked and Section 8A champion Perham was second with 102 points. Section 8A runner-up Staples-Motley finished 13th with 268 points.
