Thief River Falls, East Grand Forks rely on tiebreaker victories to top Panthers
Thief River Falls and East Grand Forks used tiebreaker wins in singles to defeat the Park Rapids girls tennis team 4-3 Tuesday.
Thief River Falls prevailed at No. 1 singles, No. 2 singles, No. 3 singles and No. 3 doubles while East Grand Forks swept the four singles matches in this Section 8A triangular at the Depot Courts as the Panthers fell to 5-8 in dual meets this season.
In the match against Thief River Falls, Mary Kading and Alyssa Carlson won in straight sets at No. 1 doubles, Karly Dickinson and Allie Girtz prevailed in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles, and Lydia Schaum prevailed in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 4 singles. Christina Smith lost in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 1 singles.
Against East Grand Forks, the Panthers won the three doubles matches in straight sets as Kading and Carlson were victorious at No. 1 doubles, Dickinson and Girtz won at No. 2 doubles, and Lexi Burlingame and Katie Walsh prevailed at No. 3 doubles. Julie Renner dropped a third-set tiebreaker at No. 2 singles.
The Panthers continue matches against section rivals next week by playing East Grand Forks and Roseau at Thief River Falls Thursday and facing Roseau at Crookston next Saturday.
