Roseau eliminates Panthers from Section 8AA tournament

Kacie Borowicz and Katie Borowicz combined to score 53 points, including 30 in the second half, to lead Roseau to an 81-46 Section 8AA playoff victory over the Park Rapids girls basketball team March 3 at Concordia College in Moorhead.

The Borowicz sisters combined for 23 points as the Rams, the No. 2 seed in the North, led 41-30 at the half. Rilee Michaelson hit three 3-pointers and scored 17 points for Park Rapids, the No. 3 seed in the South.

Roseau pulled away in the second half behind two 3-pointers by Katie Borowicz and 3-pointers by Kacie Borowicz, Haley Ostgaard and Emma Waling. Park Rapids, which missed all six 3-point attempts and went 4 for 16 on 3-pointers in the game, was outscored 40-16 after the break.

Kacie Borowicz finished with 29 points and Katie Borowicz added 24 points for the defending section champs, who advanced to the semifinals with a 22-5 record. Roseau, which defeated the Panthers 70-50 on Jan. 6, was rated No. 3 in the latest state Class AA poll.

Michaelson's 20 points and seven rebounds led the Panthers. Jaiden McCollum (10) and Kaisa Coborn (9) combined for 19 points with McCollum leading the team with eight rebounds and three assists. Coborn had four steals as the Panthers, who turned the ball over 22 times, ended the season with a 14-12 record.

In the other quarterfinal games at Concordia, Barnesville defeated Hawley 48-23, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton eliminated Breckenridge 73-52 and East Grand Forks edged Perham 46-43.
