Caden Kramer and Jack Landquist scored 10 points apiece in the first half to spark the Nevis boys basketball team to a 58-44 Northland Conference victory at Red Lake in the regular-season finale March 2.
Kramer finished with 15 points and Jack Landquist had 12 points, seven rebounds and two steals as the Tigers jumped out to a 38-23 halftime lead. Michael Landquist added 11 points, six steals, five rebounds and three steals while Tom Wormley had four rebounds and two assists. Zach Henry had two assists and two steals as Nevis ended the season with an 11-3 record in the conference and a 21-5 overall mark. The Tigers defeated Red Lake 91-63 at Nevis on Jan. 23.
Red Lake finished at 7-7 in conference play and 12-13 overall. Cass Lake won the conference title with a 14-0 record while Walker-Hackensack-Akeley was third at 9-5. Pine River-Backus tied Red Lake for fourth place at 7-7 while Blackduck (6-8), Northome-Kelliher (2-12) and Laporte (0-14) rounded out the conference standings.
"We were able to get the season sweep against Red Lake," said Nevis head coach Scott Kramer. "I thought we did a nice job of attacking inside in the first half. We were not able to hit perimeter shots against their zone in the second half, which would have opened things up for us. The game slowed down as we tried to work the ball against their packed-in zone and so the score reflected that."
