Menahga girls cap off perfect regular season

Cierra Ahlf hit clutch 3-pointers to spark two pivotal runs in the second half as the Menahga girls basketball team capped off a perfect regular season with a 65-54 win at Park Rapids Friday night.

The Braves relied on a balanced scoring attack to claim a 31-25 halftime lead. Ahlf (7), Megan Hendrickson (7), Alyssa Peterson (5), Tara Hendrickson (5) and Annie Lake (5) led Menahga in the first half.

Park Rapids also spread the offense around during the first 18 minutes with Kaisa Coborn (6), Jordan Klemmer (6), Jaiden McCollum (5), Kendra Coborn (4) and Rilee Michaelson (4) leading the way.

After two baskets by McCollum cut the gap to 33-29 with 16:00 to play, Ahlf hit a jumper and two 3-pointers to spark a 15-3 run as the Braves claimed a 48-32 lead with 10:21 remaining. Martha Peterson also hit a 3-pointer and Megan Hendrickson had a layup during that stretch.

The Panthers responded with a 12-1 run as a layup and jumper by Michaelson, 3-pointers by Kaisa Coborn and Kendra Coborn, and a jumper by Kaisa Coborn closed the gap to 49-44 at the 6:50 mark.

But Ahlf responded with a jumper, two free throws and a 3-pointer to extend the lead to 56-46 with 4:25 to go.

Kaisa Coborn responded with a 3-pointer and McCollum hit a jumper as the Panthers cut the deficit to 57-51 with 3:32 left, but Megan Hendrickson, Lake and Ahlf hit two free throws each for a 61-52 advantage with 1:23 remaining.

Ahlf finished with 25 points and eight rebounds while Megan Hendrickson tallied a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Leah Schwartz had three assists while Ahlf and Lake had three steals each as the Braves improved to 26-0.

Kaisa Coborn's 14 points, McCollum's 13 points and 14 rebounds, Michaelson's 10 points and seven rebounds, and Kaisa Coborn's four assists led the Panthers, who fell to 13-11.

Braves defeat WCA

Alyssa Peterson's 30 points, seven rebounds and five assists led the Braves to a 70-46 win over West Central Area Thursday night at Menahga.

Ahlf chipped in 16 points while Megan Hendrickson scored 13 points for Menahga.

Brianna Kreft's 17 points and Ella Van Kempen's 13 points led West Central Area, which fell to 18-7 on the season.
