Menahga boys drop two conference games

Wadena-Deer Creek hit 7 of 8 free throws in the final minute to seal a 63-55 Park Region Conference win over the Menahga boys basketball team Friday night at Wadena.

W-DC led 34-23 at the half before the Braves used a 12-0 run to take a 35-34 lead. The game remained close until the Wolverines sealed the win at the line down the stretch.

Bereket Loer scored 21 points and Noah Ross scored 15 points to lead the Wolverines, who improved to 9-2 in the conference and 11-9 overall. W-DC, Pillager (9-3) and Henning (8-3) lead the conference standings.

Menahga made 11 of 27 3-pointers, but connected on only 4 of 35 shots from inside the arc. Gavin Hillukka scored 19 points, Charlie Hodge scored 14 points and Tristan Aho added 11 points for the Braves, who fell to 4-8 in the conference and 7-14 overall. Jonah Howard grabbed 10 rebounds, Aho had six rebounds, Zach Floyd dished out nine assists to go along with four steals, and Hodge had three steals for Menahga, which lost to W-DC 66-58 on Jan. 9. The Braves are 1-6 in their last seven conference games.

Sebeka tops Braves

James Clark and Jack Lillquist posted double-doubles in leading Sebeka to a 58-49 conference victory over the Braves at Sebeka on Feb. 5.

Clark had 23 points and 12 rebounds while Lillquist added 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Trojans, who led 30-27 at the half. William Hannu also hit double figures with 11 points as Sebeka avenged a 54-50 loss at Menahga on Jan. 4 to improve to 4-6 in the conference and 10-7 overall.

Aho scored 20 points while Hodge (9) and Floyd (8) combined for 17 points to lead the Braves. Howard had nine rebounds and four steals while Floyd dished out five assists and joined Hodge and Owen Anderson with three steals as Menahga went 7 for 34 on 3-point attempts.
