Panthers drop games to Frazee, Breckenridge

Paige Ziegler hit four 3-pointers and scored 18 of her 22 points in the second half in leading Frazee to a 61-58 win over the Park Rapids girls basketball team Feb. 1 at Frazee.

Rilee Michaelson, who hit 9 of 11 shots and scored 19 points in the first half to give Park Rapids a 31-30 halftime lead, finished with a double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds. Paige Johnson added 11 points and three blocks while Kendra Coborn had seven assists. Jaiden McCollum dished out five assists and Jordan Klemmer led the way with three steals as the Panthers lost despite shooting 51 percent from the field, including making 5 of 12 3-pointers.

Natalie Nudell added 12 points and Paige Oswald scored 11 points for Frazee, which made 9 of 20 3-point attempts and capitalized on 18 Park Rapids turnovers in the game to improve to 8-10 on the season.

Panthers fall in Fargo

Breckenridge outscored the Panthers 32-13 in the second half in a 56-32 win Feb. 3 at the Fargo Civic Center.

Nine players entered the scoring column for Breckenridge in this battle of Section 8AA teams. Chase Yaggie (13) and Sophie Aigner (11) led the way as the Cowgirls improved to 2-7 against section teams and 9-12 overall. Breckenridge, which made only 2 of 25 3-point attempts and shot 29 percent in the game, forced 21 turnovers in avenging a 65-63 loss to the Panthers on Dec. 28.

Michaelson's 14 points and eight rebounds and McCollum's 11 rebounds led the Panthers, who shot only 26 percent from the field. Coborn had three assists as the Panthers fell to 4-5 in the section and 11-8 overall.
