Minnehaha United scores four goals in third period to seal win
Minnehaha United scored four goals in the third period to seal a 6-1 win over the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team Saturday afternoon at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.
Lucy Lyngen scored 4:50 into the game before the Panthers' Tara Johanning tied the game at 1-1 at the 13:43 mark on assists from Abigale Strandlie and Lexi Hinkley-Smith. Minnehaha United held a 12-7 edge in shots in the opening period.
Minnehaha United controlled the rest of the game, following a 20-3 advantage in shots in the second period with a 25-6 advantage in shots in the third period.
Hannah Schommer scored a power-play goal at the 11:19 mark of the second period as Minnehaha United claimed a 2-1 lead.
The Class AA team comprised of schools from Minnehaha Academy, DeLaSalle, Providence Academy and St. Agnes sealed the win by scoring three goals within a span of 1:32 at the start of the third period. Lyngen scored at the 1:38 mark, Emma Bettencourt scored at the 2:28 mark and Schommer scored at the 3:10 mark as Minnehaha United built a 5-1 lead. Justine Hill's power-play goal capped the scoring at the 8:15 mark.
Minnehaha United, which defeated Northern Lakes 5-1 Friday night, finished with a 57-16 advantage in shots to improve to 15-8-1 on the season.
Goalie Kylee Pachel made 51 saves as the Panthers fell to 3-20 in their final home game of the season.
