Cass Lake defeats Braves in semifinals

Cass Lake-Bena made seven 3-pointers in the first half to take control in an 88-59 victory over the Menahga boys basketball team in a semifinal game of the Park Rapids Holiday Tournament on Dec. 27.

Inside baskets by Jonah Howard, Zach Floyd, Owen Anderson and Charlie Hodge kept Menahga within 9-8 with 14:11 to play in the first half before the Panthers used a 28-10 run to build a 49-25 advantage at the break. Michael Reyes hit two 3-pointers while Mark Reyes, Ethan Brown and Raul Washington also connected from behind the arc. Hodge hit a 3-pointer and two jumpers to lead the Braves during that stretch.

Menahga played the Panthers even for most of the second half as three 3-pointers by Hodge, two inside baskets by Tristan Aho and two baskets by Floyd made it 71-50 with 7:11 to play. Hodge hit another 3-pointer and Anderson had two baskets as the Braves were outscored 17-9 down the stretch.

Hodge's 21 points and three steals, Floyd's 10 points and five assists, and Howard's seven rebounds led the Braves.

Noah DeLapaz (17), Arnold Kingbird (17), Michael Reyes (15), Brown (11) and Jarell Jacobs (10) hit double figures for Cass Lake.

Braves rout Wildcats

Howard's 24 points and 19 rebounds powered the Braves in a 94-61 victory over Laporte at Menahga on Dec. 21.

Hodge chipped in 20 points, nine steals and five assists while Anderson had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Floyd scored 14 points, Aho finished with 10 points and nine rebounds, and Grant Tolkkinen had six assists and six steals for Menahga.
