Austin Jerger made 27 saves and Nolan Pederson scored a pair of goals in leading the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team to a 6-0 Mid-State Conference win over Prairie Centre Tuesday night at Long Prairie.
Josh Kuhlman assisted on a goal by Micah Link at the 10:12 mark of the first period to give Park Rapids a 1-0 lead. Jerger stopped all 12 shots he faced as the North Stars held a 12-5 advantage in shots in the opening period.
A four-goal second period put the Panthers in control. Pederson's goal at the 5:14 mark made it 2-0 before Josh Baker and Bjorn Jorgenson set up Cameron Hoyt's power-play goal at the 9:00 mark. Baker scored on assists from Jorgenson and Shea Alto at the 15:59 mark before James Hillukka and Alto assisted on a power-play goal by Christoffer Madsen at the 16:31 mark for a 5-0 advantage. The Panthers held a 12-7 edge in shots in that period.
Pederson concluded the scoring at the 13:04 mark of the third period as Park Rapids held a 10-8 edge in shots. Connor Link assisted on that goal.
Both teams finished with 27 shots on goal. The Panthers, who went 2-for-5 on the power play in their conference opener, improved to 2-0 on the season while the North Stars went 0-for-7 on power-play opportunities in falling to 0-2 in the conference and 0-4 overall.
