Braves, Tigers open season with victories

Both the Menahga and Nevis boys basketball teams were victorious in their season openers Friday.

Tristan Aho had a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds in leading Menahga to a 51-45 victory over Goodridge/Grygla Friday afternoon at the Bemidji Sanford Center. Jonah Howard added 12 points and five rebounds.

Michael Landquist (20), Luke DeWulf (16), Tom Wormley (13), Caden Kramer (9), Dylen Spain-Brist (8), Zach Henry (8), Eddie Kramer (8) and Donny Peet (7) led a balanced scoring attack as Nevis rolled to a 91-29 Northland Conference victory at Laporte.

DeWulf added nine rebounds and three steals, Wormley and Kramer hauled down six rebounds each, Landquist had five assists and five steals, and Henry had three assists for the Tigers, who led 51-10 at the half.

"We got the season started off with a good road win in the conference," said Nevis head coach Scott Kramer. "We scored the first 20 points of the game and coasted from there. We did a lot of good things on the floor. I was pleased with how well our guys played considering the limited practice time we had together due to the length of the football season."
