Panthers earn key points in sweep against Bemidji

Putting together strong runs to close out the first and third sets sparked the Park Rapids volleyball team to a 25-17, 25-13, 26-24 victory at Bemidji Thursday night.

The Panthers held a slim 15-14 lead in Set 1 before going on a 10-3 run to close out the opening set.

In Set 2, Park Rapids used a 7-1 run to extend an 11-7 advantage to 18-8 in taking a 2-0 lead.

Bemidji was in position to force a fourth set by building a 24-21 lead in Set 3. But Jaiden McCollum and Kamree Carlson combined for four kills during a 5-0 run that rallied the Panthers and ended the match.

McCollum's 15 kills and Carlson's 10 kills led the Panthers, who had 39 kills in the match. Kennedy Carlson set up 33 of those kills. Park Rapids put 67 of 74 serves in play with 14 aces. Kennedy Carlson served five aces while Kaisa Coborn and Katelyn Weaver served 10 points each with Coborn serving three aces.

Coborn led the defense with 19 digs while Kamree Carlson and Weaver had 13 digs apiece. Kennedy Carlson and McCollum combined for three blocks as the Panthers improved to 11-1 on the season.

Lexi Wade's 16 kills and 14 digs led Bemidji, which fell to 8-6 on the season.
