Errors, walks lift East Grand Forks to 10-3 victory

East Grand Forks took advantage of errors, walks and hit batters to spark a 10-5 victory over the Park Rapids baseball team in a battle of Section 8AA rivals Thursday at the Area High School field.

Park Rapids took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Jason Haas reached on a three-base error on a fly ball to right field and scored on another error.

After using two errors to take a 2-1 lead in the fourth, the Green Wave used two walks and three singles to claim a 6-2 lead in the fifth.

Tristin Persons led off the bottom of the fifth with a single, stole second and scored on an error as the Panthers made it 6-3.

EGF began the sixth with a pair of walks before a hit batter and a two-out error led to two runs before three walks, a hit batter and a two-out single pushed the lead to 10-3 in the seventh.

Park Rapids concluded the scoring in the bottom of the seventh on Persons' lead-off double, a run-scoring grounder by Haas, an error, a single by Gabe Bagstad and a two-run single by Sam Eystad.

Persons (2 for 4, two runs) and Eystad (2 for 3) led the Panthers' six-hit attack. Eystad started and took the loss, allowing six runs over 4.2 innings. Brendan Kruchowski took over in the fifth.

Both teams are now 3-3 in section play. The Panthers fell to 8-7 overall with their third loss in a row while EGF improved to 6-10 overall.
