Menahga, Nevis open volleyball playoffs at home; Panthers travel to Hawley

  Menahga and Nevis will open the Section 5A volleyball tournament at home while Park Rapids will open the Section 8AA tournament on the road when the playoffs begin Thursday night.

     Park Rapids (10-11) received the No. 6 seed and will play at No. 3 Hawley (18-8) Thursday night at 7 in a Section 8AA North quarterfinal match.

     Thursday night’s other 8AA North quarterfinal matches find No. 2 Roseau (23-7) hosting No. 7 Warroad (5-20), No. 1 Thief River Falls (22-4-2) hosting No. 8 Crookston (0-20), and No. 4 Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (13-13) hosting No. 5 East Grand Forks (18-9).

     The North semifinals will be held Friday night at sites to be determined. Perham (24-2) is the top seed in the South.

     In the Section 5A tournament, Menahga (6-14) received the No. 4 seed in the North 1 bracket and will host No. 5 Pillager (7-18-3) Thursday night at 7. The winner travels to No. 1 Nevis (18-9-2) Friday night at 7.

     The North semifinals will be played next Tuesday (Oct. 29) at Crosby with Pierz hosting the Section 5A championship match on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m.
