Panthers blank New York Mills

Hope Johnson rolled to a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles in Park Rapids' 7-0 victory over New York Mills.

     The Park Rapids girls tennis team coasted to another dual win by blanking New York Mills 7-0 Thursday.

     It marked the third 7-0 win in the last four matches for the Panthers, who dropped only five games.

     Hope Johnson, Charity Ridlon and Sarena Kinkel combined to lose only four games in the top singles matches. Kellsey Clark received a forfeit win at No. 4 singles.

     In doubles, the Panthers lost only one game as the Christina Smith/Julia Smith, Lindsey Girtz/Morgan Knott and Ali Walsh/Mariena Dearstyne duos dominated.

     Park Rapids, which was rated No. 9 in this week’s state Class A poll, improved to 11-1 in dual meets.

     The end of Saturday’s Mid-State Conference meet was rained out and will be completed today (Wednesday) starting at 1 p.m. at the Depot Courts.

No. 2 singles: Charity Ridlon, PR, over Abby Salo 6-0, 6-0.

No. 3 singles: Sarena Kinkel, PR, over Jordin Roberts 6-0, 6-0.

No. 4 singles: Kellsey Clark, PR, won by forfeit.

No. 1 doubles: Christina Smith/Julia Smith, PR, over Jenelle Boe/Robyn Harper 6-0, 6-1.

No. 2 doubles: Lindsey Girtz/Morgan Knott, PR, over Maddy Keskitalo/Mallory Weber 6-0, 6-0.

No. 3 doubles: Ali Walsh/Mariena Dearstyne, PR, over Kori Salo/Mikaila Honer 6-0, 6-0.
