"I caught a fish, I caught a fish," were the echoes that could be heard along the shores of the Fish Hook River Saturday morning.

The 9th annual Youth Fishing Derby at Red Bridge Park had another successful year.

The cool, breezy morning did not stop the young anglers from having a great time. A total of 262 fish were caught between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

According to Jon Gravdahl, who helped weigh in fish at the derby, the fish were biting a bit slower this year. "But it was an awesome day with the kids, as always."

The overall grand prize went to Logan Wilson, 10, with a total weight of 3.37 pounds.

In the 9- to 12-year-old category, first place went to Kendra Holman, 12, with 2.46 pounds. Second place went to Jake Eischens, 12, with 2.37 pounds and third place went to Emily Stillwell, 9, with 1.82 pounds.

In the 5- to 8-year-old category, first place went to Aaliyah Preston, 6, with 2.48 pounds. Second place went to Lane Monaghan, 8, with 2.01 pounds and third place went to Caitlin Boos, 6, with .84 pounds.

Kim Petrie and Sharon Melbo, who organized the event, thanked all the sponsors, stating this event could not take place with out them.

Melbo said they are truly looking forward to next year's derby as it will mark the 10-year anniversary for this annual event.
