Nice weather for Menahga fishing

Hundreds headed to Spirit Lake Saturday afternoon as the weather warmed up just in time for the annual Menahga Family Fishing Derby.

More than $10,000 in prizes was given away throughout the afternoon. The event is sponsored by the Menahga Civic and Commerce Association. The grand prize raffle winner was Jeremy Huotari, of Cologne, who won the 2014 Ice Castle fish house.

The third largest fish received $500. The winner was Curt Weber.

Other raffle winners included Matt Roepke, Hutchinson, a $100 Shell gas card, Garrett Weimer, Eagan, a $50 Cottage House gift certificate, Art Skoog, Menahga, a $50 Chuck’s Country Foods gift certificate and Myles Kiphuth, Menahga, an ION ice auger.

Winners in category one – northern/walleye/bass – were Pete Krotzer, $100, Trevor Hendrickson, $75, Curt Weber, $50, and Scott Larson, Casey Stanley, Sierra Chisolm, Warren Hendrickson, T.J. Stewart, Robert Scott and Myles Kiphuth, $25.

In category two – pan fish – winners included Tom Schnettler, $100, Duane Pearson, $75, Joe Fink, $50 and Kathy Fink, J. Kilmer, Myles Kiphuth, Don Wyer, J.R. Fransen, and Tyler Thomas, $25.
