Ely bear cub Hope missing again
ELY -- The famous bear cub Hope was missing again today.
The cub, made famous after researchers aimed a webcam at her mother Lily's den, wandered away from a tree where Lily left her Monday night. Late today the cub was still missing.
This is the second time the two have gotten separated. Last week researchers from the North American Bear Center were able to find Hope and return her to her mother. This time Lily was scared off when her own mother, another collared research bear known as June, came around. Even though June was making pleasant noises, Lily ran off and Hope ran up a tree.
Researcher Lynn Rogers said Lily ran a mile away, probably assuming Hope would stay in the tree for safety. But the cub left overnight.
Rogers continued to track Lily's movements tonight based on information from her radio and GPS collar.
