Letter to Editor: Rep. Green should represent us all
Recently, Steve Green chose to convert a State Department of Education "toolkit" (to Ensure Safe and Supportive Schools for Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Students) into a political issue by advising local districts not to use it. Since then, other writers have addressed the issue in public forum, either agreeing or disagreeing with Green.
But why did he take a position on this in the first place? Is it because he doesn't really support local control - you know, letting the people decide for themselves? Is it because a chance to ride the base trumps making all kids feel safe in school? Is it because he doesn't see himself representing all of us?
For him to be properly addressed as "Representative" Green, perhaps he might try speaking for the weakest, most vulnerable among us and not just those possessing power and voice.
