Congratulations on a successful fishing opener

Way to go, Park Rapids! We did it!

The 2013 Park Rapids lakes area Governor’s Fishing Opener was spectacular and it’s all due to the community stepping up to the plate.

More than 400 volunteers shared their time and talent for the event. They didn’t just spend a couple hours volunteering over the weekend. Many people spent a significant amount of time planning and organizing the event.

The community welcomed visitors with open arms as well and they noticed.

John Edman, director of Explore Minnesota Tourism, said Park Rapids is an outstanding place and said, “Here we have found the heart of Minnesota Nice.”

That sums up nicely this place where we live, work and play. What an amazing place to call home.

“Passion, expertise and partnership,” Chamber director Katie Magozzi said. “Thanks to everyone who set the hook,” she said of the volunteers who headed out on area lakes as fishing hosts, organized the community and celebration dinners and completed the sundry duties involved in hosting media and Gov. Mark Dayton and Lt. Gov. Yvonne Prettner Solon and staff.

“This is something the community can be proud of for years to come,” Magozzi said.

That’s the truth. The event chairs, in particular, did a fabulous job leading the community of volunteers.

Friday night’s community picnic brought everyone together with vendors from all sectors having a blast in celebrating the fishing opener.

Congratulations, again to everyone who helped make this year’s fishing opener the best it could be.
