Editorial Summer of 2013 has been one to remember

As summer winds down and school begins, we’re reminded of what a great place Park Rapids is to live and play.

There was no shortage of things to do in lakes country this summer.

Kudos to the Downtown Business Association for another successful season of 2nd Street Stage events. The final concert was Thursday night and the street was filled with people enjoying music, food, drinks and camaraderie.

Each Thursday night families flocked downtown. Many attended each week. Thursday’s entertainer was a band called Bigtree Bonsai that played an eclectic mix of folk, jazz, blues, hip-hop and old favorites.

DBA president Cynthia Jones thanked all the sponsors, and especially the audience for a successful summer. The concerts, which started last summer, were an immediate hit and have a lot of activities for kids.

Legends and Logging Days, Park Rapids’ signature event, was also a great success this year. The event continues to grow at it’s location at the Antique Tractor Club grounds.

Our neighboring towns have also hosted an array of events this summer. We’ve enjoyed visiting Lake George, Nevis, Akeley, Menahga and Laporte.

And summer isn’t quite finished. The next couple weekends will be busy with Uff Da! Days, Nimrod Jubilee Days, Snellman Days and more to bring summer to an end.

While we’re said to see summer coming to a close, we think this one has been successful and will look back fondly on all the activities.

We’re excited to see what 2014 will bring as well.
