James C. Shearer
James C. Shearer, 73, West Fargo, ND passed away Thursday, November 23, 2017 under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley after a short battle with cancer.
Jim was born March 30, 1944 in Burlington, Iowa to Paul and Glow (Christenson) Shearer. His family moved to Strongsville, OH, where he graduated from Strongsville High School in 1962. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on December 28, 1962. He was an Airplane Mechanic serving on the U.S.S. Enterprise and the U.S.S. Ranger where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He married Shelia Mattis on August 27, 1966 in California. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy on December 27, 1966.
They made their home in California where Jim worked for Continental Airlines for 25 years where they raised their 3 daughters. They moved to Park Rapids, MN in 1984 where Jim and Shelia owned and operated Edgewood Resort on Long Lake. Jim worked for Park Rapids High School in maintenance for several years until moving to West Fargo in 2005 where he worked for NDSU in the maintenance department until his retirement.
He enjoyed spending time in his garden and going golfing. He loved being around his family and enjoyed their "shenanigans."
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shelia, West Fargo, ND; daughters, Tammy (Todd) Vik, Lake Park, MN, Christy (Bryan) Zingraf, Hawley, MN, Stephanie (Jason) Woulfe, Elizabeth City, NC; 4 grandchildren, Justin Vik, Jessica Vik, Nick Zingraf and Cody Zingraf; sister, Mary Westfall, Garland, TX; brother, Don (Barb) Shearer, Strongsville, OH and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bob Shearer and an infant brother, John Steven Shearer.
Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 1, 2017 at Grace Lutheran Church, Fargo with visitation starting at 10:00 A.M. followed by a luncheon being served at the church.
