Gerald L. Sethney

Gerald L. Sethney, age 81, of Effie, MN, died at his home Monday, Oct. 23, as a result of Alzheimer's disease.

Gerald "Jerry" Sethney was born March 26, 1936, in Twin Valley, MN, to Lester and Marjorie (Mesker) Sethney. He grew up in Twin Valley and graduated from Twin Valley High School in 1954. He then joined the U.S. Army serving until 1957 with an honorable discharge. He attended college in Bemidji, MN, and Missoula, Mont. He then was employed at Odin's Market in Twin Valley. He was united in marriage to Marlene Dalby on Sept. 26, 1959. He continued to work in the Twin Valley area until 1961 when they bought and operated Hoot Owl Resort between Hoot Owl and Pickerel Lakes for 13 years. They remained in the Lakes area for several years doing construction. Jerry got his private pilot license and started to sell the Maule airplane. In 1976, they purchased property on Birch Lake near Mille Lacs Lake, where Jerry continued to sell the Maule and establish a sea plane base. They moved to a property on the Bigfork River near Effie in 2005. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2010.

Jerry is survived by his wife Marlene, one sister Sonja (Arne) Martinson, 12 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Sharon, and one niece.

Honoring his request his body was donated to the University of Minnesota for medical research.

A memorial service will be held in the spring at Effie Lutheran Church.
