Alma L. Brauer

Alma L. Brauer

Alma Loretta Brauer (Schumacher) passed into her Lord's hands on Saturday, October 21, at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Park Rapids, MN. She was 94.

Born in Ashley, ND on July 23, 1923, to Edward and Emma Schumacher, she attended country school in the area before graduating from Ashley High School in 1941. She taught for a year at a country school nearby before marrying the love of her life, Benno Wilbert Brauer, of Kulm, ND.

They farmed in the Kulm and Ashley area until 1953 when they relocated to Moorhead. She worked as an Avon representative and later in life at Moorhead Manor, but mainly made a loving home for her family. The family joined Our Savior's Lutheran Church in the late fifties and she was a loyal member there for nearly 60 years.

Alma enjoyed all things to do with crafts: sewing, embroidery, crocheting and especially quilting where she lent her talents as a master designer for Our Savior's quilting group for decades. She had a particular panache for gardening and maintaining her meticulously kept lawn.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Benno, her parents, a sister, Darlene Kaul, and grandson, Soren Brauer.

She leaves behind a sister, Inez Knoop, Minot, ND; two sons, Bryan (Mary Ann), The Sea Ranch, CA, and Kevin (Renee) Park Rapids, MN; daughter, Marcia, Santa Rosa, CA; six remaining grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place at Our Savior's Lutheran Church at 610 13th St. N, Moorhead, MN, on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at 1:00 PM with a visitation one hour before.

Interment will be in Moorhead Memorial Gardens, Moorhead, MN.

The family is requesting memorials in her honor go to the benefit of Hospice of the Red River Valley or the Our Savior's Quilting Ministry.
