EGF hangs on to defeat Panthers
Austin Jerger turned away 36 shots through two scoreless periods before East Grand Forks was able to score three times in the third period for a 3-1 Section 8A victory over the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team Thursday night at the East Grand Forks Civic Center.
The Panthers, who were outshot 55-4 in the game, skated to a 0-0 tie as Jerger made 19 saves in the first period and 17 saves in the second period.
Goals by Jake Hjelle at the 6:27 mark, Tanner Mack at the 12:12 mark and Carter Beck at the 12:27 mark gave EGF a 3-0 lead before Bjorn Jorgenson scored with 2:59 to play as the Panthers avoided the shutout. Connor Link assisted on Jorgenson's goal, which proved to be Park Rapids' only shot on goal in that period.
Jerger finished with 52 saves as the Panthers fell to 1-1 against section teams and 2-1 overall. East Grand Forks prevailed in its section opener to improve to 3-2 overall.
