Norris Harold Hokeness

Norris Harold Hokeness, 79, of Park Rapids, MN, passed away at home on November 8, 2017. After a valiant three year fight, Norris died of complications of pancreatic cancer.

Norris was born September 27, 1938, to Harold and Esther Hokeness in Worthington, MN. He grew up on his parent's farm in Rushmore, MN. Norris graduated from Worthington High School in 1956, where he was an active member of the FFA. He graduated from Worthington Junior College in 1958 and then went on to the University of MN where he graduated with an Agricultural Engineering degree.

Norris married Terry Strom in Worthington on September 11, 1961. They were blessed with three children. Norris worked for the US Soil Conservation Service, living in Mankato. In 1963, Norris and Terry had the opportunity to farm and moved to Rushmore, MN. Norris was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rushmore where he taught Sunday School, youth fellowship, and led a Cub Scout troop.

In January, 1975, Norris and Terry purchased Bayside Resort on Potato Lake and moved their family to Park Rapids. Besides running a successful summer and winter resort business, Norris was very active in the Park Rapids Chamber of Commerce and the Itasca Area Lakes Tourism Association. He was a member of the Riverside United Methodist Church.

Norris loved to be outdoors in all seasons and enjoyed turkey and pheasant hunting with his son. He was an active member of the Headwaters Sno-Levelers club and enjoyed grooming trails and snowmobiling. Norris liked to travel by train and he and Terry had many wonderful trips across the US and Canada. Norris also enjoyed woodworking, building and remodeling resort cabins, and made beautiful furniture for his children.

Norris is survived by his wife, Terry, and children, Scott (Julie) of Lakeville, MN; Cathy (Bret) Undem of Eagan, MN, and Lori (Steve) Roll of Stillwater, MN; grandchildren, Harrison & Alexa Hokeness, Hunter & Blake Undem, Spencer & Elias Roll; siblings, Ardys Symons of Portland, OR, Paul (Marie) Hokeness of Fallbrook, CA, and Steve Hokeness of Harmony, RI.

He was preceded in death by brother-in-law, Hal, and sister-in-law, Terry.

A memorial service will be held at Riverside United Methodist Church in Park Rapids on Monday, November 13, 2017, at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, Norris' family suggests memorials. Friends may leave online condolences at Ceasefuneralhome.com.
