Update: Names released in ATV accident that injured several children in Becker County

Names of have been released in the ATV rollover accident that injured several children, including two seriously, last week near Bass Lake in rural Becker County.

According to the Becker County Sheriff’s Department, the driver, fourteen-year-old Cael Eysted of Morris, Minn. and back passenger 13-year-old Chalee Eysted also of Morris were airlifted to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale near the Twin Cities.

A passenger in the front, 13-year-old Jaden Tihlaja of Frazee was transported by private vehicle to the emergency room for minor injuries, as was another passenger in the front, 11-year-old Ryan Kangas of Osage. Another back passenger, eight-year-old Kaysen Chadourne of rural Detroit Lakes, was checked at the scene for injuries, but was not admitted to a hospital.

There is no word yet on the condition of the two children life-flighted.

The accident was reported around 11:20 a.m. on July 2. According to a press release from the Becker County Sheriff’s Department, the 14-year-old boy was driving the Honda Pioneer crew cab UTV, on a trail on property owned by a family member, when he lost control and the UTV rolled over. None of the young people were wearing seatbelts or helmets. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the State Patrol, the Detroit Lakes Police Department, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Division, Carsonville Fire and Rescue, North Memorial Ambulance and North Memorial Air Care.
