Tigers extend winning streak, improve to 13-3

The Nevis baseball team extended its winning streak to seven games in a row with three victories last week.

A 12-hit attack led the Tigers to an 11-3 Northland Conference win at Lake of the Woods on May 8 while an 11-hit attack sparked a 7-4 conference win over Cass Lake on May 9. Nevis had 10 hits in a 5-3 win over Sebeka Thursday to improve to 8-1 in the conference and 13-3 overall.

In the win over LOW, the Tigers scored three times in the second for a 4-2 lead before breaking the game open by scoring two runs apiece in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Adam Thompson (4 for 5, two runs, two RBI, four stolen bases), Sam Hitchcock (2 for 3, two runs), Dillon McGee (2 for 4, one run, three RBI), Luke DeWulf (1 for 4, two RBI), Jack DeWulf (1 for 4, one run, one RBI) and Tucker Roehl (one run, one RBI, two stolen bases) led the offense. Logan Funk, Dan Mistic, Dylan Hepokoski and Ben Soldwisch each scored a run while Luke DeWulf earned the win by allowing three runs on three hits and four walks with four strikeouts over 5.1 innings. McGee pitched the final 1.2 innings, allowing no hits as LOW fell to 3-4 in the conference and 3-5 overall.

Andrew Dudley pitched 5.2 innings of hitless relief, walking two and striking out 10, for the win as the Tigers defeated Cass Lake.

Cass Lake led 4-3 before Nevis scored twice in the fourth and once in the seventh. Jack DeWulf (2 for 4, one run, one RBI, two stolen bases), Roehl (2 for 3 with a triple, one run, one RBI), Hitchcock (2 for 3, one run, one RBI), Dudley (2 for 4, one RBI), Jack Landquist (1 for 3, one run, one RBI), Thompson (1 for 4, one run, one RBI) and Luke DeWulf (1 for 4, one run) led a balanced offensive attack. Soldwisch had an RBI and Funk scored the other run as Cass Lake fell to 3-6 in conference play and 3-10 overall.

Jack DeWulf and Thompson combined on a three-hitter while Dudley hit a home run in leading the Tigers past Sebeka.

Jack DeWulf started and picked up the win, allowing three runs on three hits and six walks with seven strikeouts over four innings. Thompson earned the save, allowing no hits and two walks while striking out five over the final three innings as Sebeka fell to 2-12.
