Tigers break school records at Section 8A True Team meet
Andrea Dudley broke three school records and Zach Henry broke one school record for the Nevis track and field teams at Tuesday's Section 8A True Team meet at Park Rapids.
Dudley was the runner-up in the triple jump (at 33 feet, 7.50 inches), finished third in the 100-meter hurdles (in 16.92) and placed fourth in the 300 hurdles (in 50.52) to break three school records in leading the Tigers to 13th place with 339.50 points. Dudley also led off the Tigers' 4 x 100 relay team that took seventh in 55.98. Cielo Mooney, Mckenna Frazier and Natalee Hockett rounded out that relay team. The 4 x 200 relay team of Anna Hennagir, Mooney, Frazier and Hockett took sixth in 2:00.89 while Ivy Huckbody placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 95-10.
Henry clocked a 11.73 for third place in the 100 dash to set a school record while Logan Tinnes was the runner-up in the 110 hurdles in 15.30. Henry and Tinnes joined Kyle Schmidt and Jack DeWulf on the runner-up 4 x 100 relay team (47.20) and third-place 4 x 200 relay team (3:39.66) as Nevis finished 14th with 310.50 points. DeWulf also took fourth in the 200 dash in 24.56.
"Overall, our kids did phenomenal. We have a small team, but had quite a few top finishers," said Nevis head coach Ed Heltunen. "Our kids keep getting faster as the year goes on and are exceeding the expectations I had set for the year. Our young athletes are working hard and with some good fortune, they will have a chance to compete at the section meet. We have quite a few upperclassmen that are setting themselves up for a very good chance at making a run at the state meet."
