Bite of Park Rapids draws local, international appeal
By JEAN RUZICKA
It was love at first bite.
The, 5th annual, “best ever” Bite of Park Rapids drew eaters from across the globe, savoring superb food from local venders.
A where-are-you-from survey conducted by Sue Tomte found people arriving from Argentina, Canada, England, France, Germany and Taiwan, 25 states and 37 Minnesota towns.
“Almost everyone ran out of food,” Cynthia Jones of the Park Rapids Downtown Business Association reports of the 12 local food vendors satisfying appetites.
The crazy contests proved to be the “biggest ever,” Jones said of the brain freeze slurping, sunflower seed spitting, corn dog crunching and whipped cream guzzling.
The music kept toes tapping throughout the day, Mother Nature withholding rain showers until later in the day.
The 3M-sponsored NASCAR racing simulator proved to be a big hit for all ages.
A “wonderful” corps of volunteers added to the spirit of the community event.
“It takes three or four years for events to take off,” Jones said. “It’s now cemented itself. I hope next year is even bigger and better.”
