Bob Kaumans brings his fishing boat into the dock on Blue Lake with passengers Eric LaFountain, seated left, Chris LaFountain and Nicole Kaumans. The group didn't catch anything on Blue Lake the morning of the Opener and were looking to try there luck on another lake later in the day. A cold start to the fishing season likely slowed activity for Saturday’s Opener in the Park Rapids area. Walleye fishing was reportedly sporadic throughout the area while Northern Pike were said to be biting. Long Lake, Big Sand Lake and Blue Lake accesses were relatively quiet in the morning with activity picking up some in the afternoon as the sun came out. The morning fishing report on Saturday followed suit with not much action reported. The Potato Lake accesses off County Highway 40 saw more activity than other area lakes in the morning with numerous boats launching but the early fishing reports were slow.
