Body found in Bemidji lake confirmed as missing man

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed that the body recovered from Lake Irving on May 16th was that of Matthew Charles Pulis, age 31. The cause of death has been determined as drowning.

Mr. Pulis was last seen during the early morning hours of Saturday, October 20th, 2012 in the downtown area of Bemidji. At that time, the Bemidji Police Department conducted a 200 block, door to door search of the area between the last point Matt Pulis was seen and his residence. The shoreline of Lake Bemidji and Lake Irving were search on foot, by boat and air. The aerial search included over the 500 acres of low land west of the city. The Police Department was assisted in these searches by the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota BCA, United States Border Patrol, Bemidji Citizens Patrol, Headwaters Violent Crimes Task Force and the Minnesota State Patrol.

The Bemidji Police Department thanks all law enforcement agencies and the public for their assistance in this investigation.  We wish to express our condolences to the Pulis family and ask that their privacy be respected.
