One dead, one hospitalized in morning apartment fire in Fargo

FARGO – One person died and another was seriously injured in an apartment fire this morning at 925 Page Drive.

The fire department was not releasing any identifying information about the victims, said Assistant Fire Chief Leroy Skarloken.

Flames could be seen coming from a second-floor unit onto the patio when firefighters arrived on scene around 5:30 a.m. The three-floor apartment complex has 20 units, according to online information about it.

Firefighters rescued four people from two different balconies using ground ladders, Skarloken said. No others were injured in the blaze.

The fire was put out within 10 to 15 minutes, Skarloken said. Shortly after, the two victims were removed from the apartment. The injured victim is being treated at Essentia Health in Fargo.

The fire was contained to the apartment, which is totally destroyed. The rest of the apartment building suffered smoke and water damage. Skarloken said the construction of the building helped contain the fire because of steel siding and double sheetrock in the walls and ceiling.

Fire investigators are still on scene that saw assistance from the Moorhead Fire Department as well. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
