Two men survive plunge into open water on Otter Tail County lake

Two men survived a close call Tuesday when their ATV tipped into open water on Dead Lake - the fourth ATV mishap in five days in Otter Tail County.

Andrew Swank, 26, and Dallas Williamson, 24, both of Austin, were riding across Dead Lake when their ATV, which was pulling a portable fish house, tipped into open water, according to a news release from the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office.

Williamson, who was riding on the back, was able to swim to the surface and climb onto the ice. He and Swank ran to their cabin and called authorities to report the incident, the release stated.

The men had traveled on the same portion of Dead Lake to go fishing, but they didn't see the open water as they rode back to the cabin, the release stated.
