Cass County man convicted in sex trial

Cass County Attorney Christopher J. Strandlie reports that on Thursday, October 27, 2011, a Cass County jury convicted Robert Arthur Litzau (DOB: 08/24/1942) of the felony crimes of Count 1: Violation of Predatory Offender Registration Requirements and Count 2: Burglary of a Dwelling, for offenses occurring in the Pine River/Backus area between approximately May 5 and May 27, 2010. The verdicts came after a three-day trial, prosecuted by First Assistant Cass County Attorney Barbara J. Harrington. The investigation was conducted by the Cass County Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Apprehension-Predatory Offender Registration Unit (BCA-POR).

This was Litzau's second conviction for Violation of Registration Requirements. He was convicted of a similar offense in Crow Wing County in 2009. Because of that prior conviction, the new conviction in Count 1 carries a mandatory prison sentence of 24 months. A sentencing date has not yet been determined, but sentencing is expected to occur during the first week of December in Cass County District Court.

Litzau was taken into custody and will be held pending sentencing.
